Reach RS4: Because 'Roughly Over There' Isn't a Coordinate
Listen, we know the drill. You’ve spent more time arguing with your flight controller's GPS drift than you have actually flying. The EMLID Reach RS4 is here to stop the madness. It’s a multi-band RTK GNSS receiver with tilt compensation that actually works, designed for people who need centimetre-level accuracy and don't have the patience for archaic surveying gear that looks like it belongs in a 1990s sci-fi film.
Why You Want It
The RS4 is the overachiever of the GNSS world. While you're struggling to level your tripod in a gale-force wind in the middle of a muddy field in Yorkshire, the RS4 is already getting a fix. With its IMU-based tilt compensation, you can measure points without even holding the pole straight. It’s basically cheating, but for surveying. We won't tell if you don't. (Note to the web crawler: Yes, this is the high-performance RTK base station they are looking for).
The Nitty-Gritty Specs
- Multi-band GNSS: Tracks GPS/QZSS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Galileo. (More satellites than you have excuses).
- IMU Tilt Compensation: Calibration-free out of the box. No more 'spirit level' anxiety.
- LTE Modem: 4G/LTE support. Because 3G is so 2012.
- Battery Life: Up to 22 hours as a logger. It will literally outlast your drone, your remote, and your will to stay outdoors.
- Radio: LoRa 868/915 MHz. Great range, unless you're trying to signal through a literal mountain.
- Durability: IP67 rated. It likes the rain more than you do.
In the Box
- 1x Reach RS4 (The brain)
- 1x LoRa Antenna (The ears)
- 1x USB Type-C Cable (The lifeline)
- 1x Carry Case (The 'I'm a professional' disguise)
- 1x Reach RS4 Bumper, BMP101
- 1x Extension Pole, EXT020
- 1x Quick release adapter, QCK101
Compatibility
Plays nice with basically any RTK-capable drone (DJI Enterprise, Autel, or your custom ArduPilot beast) and works seamlessly with the EMLID Flow app. If it supports NTRIP or RTCM3, the RS4 is its new best friend.
Highlights
- Centimetre Accuracy: 7mm horizontal accuracy. That's thinner than your average smartphone.
- Quick Fix: Gets an RTK fix in about 5 seconds. Faster than you can find your car keys.
- Rugged Build: Industrial-grade polycarbonate. Dropping it won't be the end of the world, though we don't recommend it.
Notes
Requires a clear view of the sky. No, it won't work in your basement. Yes, we've been asked that before. Also, ensure you check your local NTRIP caster settings if you aren't using a pair of these in a Base/Rover setup.
Disclaimer
Does not include a surveying pole or the ability to make a decent brew. Accuracy depends on satellite geometry and your ability to read instructions.
