The FETtec Spike Absorber uses well-selected TVS diodes to absorb dangerous voltage surges to protect the connected components. The Spike Absorber is designed for use with an electrolytic capacitor. The capacitor can be mounted directly on it.
It prevents the voltage increase from a certain voltage in which the energy of the voltage spike is absorbed and absorbed.
In electric drive systems where brushless motors and LiPo batteries are used, very high voltage and current peaks occur. The best known way to keep them in a place where they will not harm other connected consumers is the use of capacitors. This is actually a good method. Capacitors dampen all movement in the voltage by charging when the voltage rises and discharging when it falls again. In some cases, the voltage spikes are too fast for capacitors. These spikes range in nanoseconds and microseconds, they can easily reach twice or three times the normal battery voltage. Most consumers tolerate these voltage spikes, even if they are far above the actual maximum voltage rating. Excessive voltage surges, or repeated periods of time, can damage the voltage regulator, capacitors and FETs and cause them to fail. The Spike Absorber absorbs these voltage spikes so that harmful voltages can not be reached.
