The new Emlid Reach RS4 RTK GNSS receiver on a surveying pole.

Emlid's New Gear: Less Faff, More Fixing

Let's be honest, new product launches can be a bit of a drag. Emlid, however, seems to have spent less time on marketing fluff and more time fixing the things that make surveyors want to 'test the structural integrity' of their gear against a tree. The new Reach RS4 is the result of them actually listening to feedback, aiming for less fiddling and more time in the field getting paid.

So, what does that mean for you? It means a new all-band GNSS receiver that finds a signal in places it probably shouldn't, like under a thick canopy or between buildings. The tilt compensation is now faster and factory-calibrated, which cuts down on the ceremonial pre-survey pole dance. They've also housed it in magnesium alloy and given it a quick-release mount, because faffing with threads in the cold is nobody's idea of a good time.

The family has grown, too. The Reach RX2 packs the essential upgrades—all-band RTK and tilt—into a simpler, zero-configuration body for teams that just need a point. At the other end, the RS4 Pro gets a pair of cameras, letting you use AR to stake out points or measure that awkward corner you can't physically reach. It’s a surprisingly practical application of tech that usually just puts dog ears on your face.

In short, Emlid rewired their whole lineup to be more reliable and less of a headache. If you measure things for a living and prefer your equipment to just work, we've got a much more detailed breakdown of every nut and bolt over on the full blog post. It's worth a read.
