Betaflight Decided to Change Everything. Again.
Share
Right then. Betaflight has decided that remembering version numbers like 4.5.2 is a bit of a chore. So, they're switching to a system even you can't forget: the date. Starting this December, releases will follow a simple YEAR.MONTH.PATCH format. This also means two major updates a year, one in June and one in December. Predictability. What a concept.
The Configurator is also getting a makeover. It’s ditching the old downloadable app routine and moving into your browser as a Progressive Web App (PWA) at app.betaflight.com. Before you panic, you can still ‘install’ it for offline use in the field. It just means no more hunting for the right installer file; the browser handles it all. Clever.
To make things even less confusing, the Configurator version will now match the firmware version. A truly groundbreaking idea. And don't worry, they aren't rewriting the past; all your beloved old versions will keep their classic numeric names. This is strictly a 'going forward' sort of arrangement, so your flight controller's history is safe.
Look, it's a sensible change that makes life a smidge easier. If you want the full, unabridged director's cut, you can read our detailed post here. Or, if you'd rather just watch a man talk at a screen, Mads Tech explains it all below.
