Quick answer
PNP, BNF and RTF describe how complete the aircraft or package is; ELRS and TBS Crossfire describe the radio-control receiver; WTFPV describes what is absent from the FPV video system. They are separate layers, not interchangeable labels. An “ELRS WTFPV” drone can have an ELRS receiver fitted while still having no DJI camera or video transmitter.
FPV acronyms: the quick compatibility table
Use this as the short version before reading a product listing. The key rule is that the radio-control system and the FPV video system are separate choices.

Two more abbreviations worth knowing: RX means the radio-control receiver fitted to the drone, while VTX means the video transmitter that sends the camera picture to your goggles. A receiver and a video transmitter perform completely different jobs.
What does PNP mean on an FPV drone?
PNP means Plug-and-Play. On a pre-built multirotor, it normally means the aircraft is assembled but no separate radio receiver is fitted. You add and configure a receiver that matches your transmitter. A PNP listing is therefore not a complete flying kit: it normally excludes the radio, goggles, flight battery and charger as well.
There is one important DJI exception. If a compatible DJI Air Unit is installed, its SBUS control output is connected to the flight controller and the flight controller is configured for SBUS, some PNP versions can be controlled with the DJI FPV Remote Controller supported by that Air Unit and goggles combination. That is why a listing may say “PNP – use DJI receiver” or “bind to DJI radio or add your own RX”. Never translate PNP blindly as “cannot be controlled”; read the receiver, Air Unit and compatibility details together.
What does ELRS mean?
If a drone version is labelled ELRS, it has an ExpressLRS receiver installed. You can use it with an ELRS radio or an external ELRS transmitter module, provided the hardware uses the same frequency band. Most compact FPV gear is ELRS 2.4GHz, but 868/900MHz equipment also exists and the two bands do not bind to each other.
The transmitter and receiver must also run compatible firmware: the first number of the ExpressLRS version must match, as explained in the official ExpressLRS binding guide. A shared binding phrase is the cleanest way to bind your own fleet. “ELRS” does not mean the drone includes a radio, goggles, battery or charger, and it says nothing about whether the video is analogue or digital.
What does TBS mean?
On the receiver selector for a pre-built drone, TBS almost always means a TBS Crossfire receiver, commonly a Crossfire Nano RX, has been installed. It does not mean the drone uses a TBS video transmitter.
Choose this version if your radio has Crossfire built in, such as a TBS Tango 2, or carries a compatible Crossfire transmitter module. An ELRS radio cannot bind directly to a Crossfire receiver. If you already own ELRS equipment, buying the TBS version creates extra cost rather than an upgrade.

Where does BNF fit?
BNF means Bind-and-Fly. The drone has a compatible radio-control receiver installed, or an installed DJI Air Unit wired to provide its supported control path, but no transmitter is included. You supply the compatible radio, bind it, confirm the channel mapping, arming switch and failsafe, then perform the checks in the manual.
Retailers do not use BNF perfectly consistently. The useful information is always the named protocol beside it: “BNF ELRS”, “BNF Crossfire” or “BNF DJI”. If a title says only BNF, inspect the variant and box contents before ordering.
What is a WTFPV version?
WTFPV means the FPV video system is not installed. On the O3/O4-ready models discussed here, that means the DJI camera, Air Unit and normally its video antenna are absent. You receive the finished powertrain and compatible frame, but the drone cannot send a picture to any goggles until you install the specified system.
WTFPV does not automatically mean PNP. Our GEPRC CineLog30 V3 WTFPV, for example, has separate PNP, ELRS 2.4GHz and TBS Nano RX receiver choices. The first choice concerns radio control; WTFPV concerns video. This is the single distinction most product titles fail to make obvious.
Manufacturers do vary, so check three lines in the listing: VTX, camera and antenna. “O4-ready” describes compatibility, not inclusion. Budget for the Air Unit and the installation work unless the box contents explicitly list it.
Why RTF is not literally ready to fly out of the box
RTF means Ready-to-Fly as a package category. A genuine FPV RTF kit should include the matched drone, radio controller and goggles. Two protected-propeller examples in our catalogue are the EMAX Tinyhawk Nanoscout RTF kit and BetaFPV Aquila16 starter kit. These include the three parts that a normal BNF or PNP drone does not.
It still is not “open the lid and launch”. The flight batteries, radio and goggles may need charging, and any removable antenna specified by the manual must be fitted before its video transmitter is powered. You must charge each battery exactly as its manual specifies, inspect the propellers and fasteners, verify the controls and arming switch, and choose a safe place to fly. Do not update a pre-bound kit merely because newer firmware exists. With ExpressLRS, updating only one side to a different major firmware version will break compatibility; follow the kit maker’s instructions and keep the transmitter and receiver on compatible major versions.
RTF is also not a promise that every optional extra is included. Spare batteries, a USB power supply, memory card or radio cells may still be separate. The box-contents list outranks the letters on the title.

- Video: Is it analogue, DJI, Walksnail or HDZero, and do your goggles support it?
- WTFPV: If shown, are the camera, VTX and antenna absent, and which Air Unit physically fits?
- Box contents: Are the battery, charger, radio and goggles actually listed?

Can I use an ELRS drone with any ELRS radio?
Only when the transmitter and receiver use the same band, normally 2.4GHz or 868/900MHz, and compatible ExpressLRS major firmware. You then bind them with a shared phrase or the supported manual method.
Does PNP include the DJI O4 Air Unit?
Sometimes. PNP usually refers to the radio receiver, while O4 refers to video. Read the VTX, camera and box-contents fields rather than assuming either way.
Does WTFPV include a receiver?
It can. WTFPV describes the missing FPV video system. The same WTFPV drone may be sold as PNP, ELRS or TBS Crossfire.
Do I need goggles for an RTF FPV drone?
A true FPV RTF kit should include goggles, but verify the box contents. Some sellers use RTF loosely for aircraft that include a radio but no FPV display.
Which version should a new pilot choose?
If you own no equipment, choose a genuine whoop RTF kit. If you already own an ELRS 2.4GHz radio and compatible goggles, an ELRS version matching your video system is usually the simplest route.
