TL;DR: We got screwed by an aluminium supplier and the motors we thought had 7075 alu acually have 6082, which is worse for durability. We think these motors are otherwise brilliant, and we want to share that with you by offering this error batch for £5 each while we get some 7075 bells made in the mean time. Much love – TheFPV Team <3
So, we’ve been put in a pretty naff spot. Nothing major, but it sucks nonetheless. Some of you may have noticed that we’ve released a new motor – TheFPV Motor. The idea behind TheFPV is to make products which satisfy the needs of pretty much everyone, while removing the serious amount of BS that floats around in this hobby. It’s not no frills, but it is no unsubstantiated claims.
The Motors were made to follow that philosophy – look good, fly well, and use all the features that people *should* be going after to have a pleasant experience. Luckily, not to to toot our own horn, we can say that these really do look the part – if you’ll excuse the cliche, the camera really doesn’t do them justice. Also, they fly really well – we’ve a number of pilots trying them out on BF4.2, KISS, and EmuFlight builds, all of which have been a breeze to set up for smooth flights. The power’s there too, which is a nice plus. All round, we’re very proud of what we’re offering for the price here.
So, what’s the fuss? Sounds pretty good? Well, the problem is that after having completed some additional tests, we started to notice that these motors weren’t holding up to collisions as well as they should have been, and, after a couple more crashes, we decided to get them tested.
The results blew, hard – the 7075 bells we ordered, are actually 6082. Not good. It turns out the aluminium supplier had been telling some porkies. The awesome motor we thought we had wasn’t quite what it should have been, so now we don’t feel we can sell these at their current price, and we certainly don’t want to sell you something other than what you think you’re getting. We’ve got to keep to our philosophy and make sure we deliver on what we claim.
After some thought, we’ve decided to make the best of a bad situation for everyone. While we are working on getting the 7075 bells made, what do we do with the existing stock? Well, we think we do have something great here. We won’t upsell you on “20g more thrust than the leading competitor!” or “smoothest motors ever”, “our magnets are better than your magnets” etc etc. The fact is, for most of us, a motor is a motor. And this one is a GOOD motor. We want to share that with you all, because to be honest, we just really like them, and we think you will too.
To that end, we’re going to be selling these error motors off for £5 each. If you’re building a basher, if you want to try something new, or if you’re on a real tight budget, boy, do we have something for you.
We will be having 7075 bells made to bring these up to the standard we want of them, but for now, we’re proud to be offering this sort of performance at this sort of price, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
