The Edge autopilot is an advanced drone autopilot that includes 5.8Ghz datalink capable to streaming full HD video and telemetry up to 2Km.  The Autopilot itself runs ardupilot open source firmware, the words best autopilot firmware which includes almost every feature you can imagine.  The Edge hardware itself packs 2x dual temperature controlled IMUs, a wide range Hall sensor based power module, and an external UAVCAN GNSS module.  So if you are looking for the cutting edge in drone autopilots the Edge will give your drone the ...edge...

Key Features

  • Runs Open Source Ardupilot Firmware that can be customised
  • 5.8Ghz Video and Telemetry link capable of up to 2Km range
  • HDMi video input to capture video from your onboard camera and stream it back down to your ground station (running QGroundControl, or GStreamer) in HD
  • Dual Processor Architecture (One for RTOS for time senstive tasks like RC signal decoting and motor control, and another running linux for general tasks like networking and media)
  • Dual Temperature stabilised IMU
  • Thin and sleek design (just 15mm thick and 97x46mm wide)

Makes video streaming from a drone easier

There is no more need for a separate video transmission system. Edge has an integrated HDMI input and video compression engine allowing it to capture Full HD video from an onboard camera. Stream is delivered to the GCS over a long range 5.8 GHz Wi-Fi link.

Do I need to buy anything else for video streaming?

Nope. Two long range Wi-Fi modules come in a bundle. One for Edge, another for a laptop. Nothing extra is required to get video stream from a camera.

What apps support streaming from Edge?

Works seamlessly with QGroundControl, just connect to Edge from your computer and video will appear on a screen. Also works with GStreamer.

Dual-processor architecture

dual-processor-edge.jpg

ARM Cortex-A53 64-bit quad-core CPU

Full-fledged Linux system with plenty of resources handles general tasks, as well as networking and media.

ARM Cortex-M3 co-processor

Runs real-time operating system for time sensitive tasks such as PWM output for motor control and RC signal decoding.

Temperature-stabilized dual IMU

Integrated heating maintains constant temperature of IMU and barometer to ensure stable operation in cold climate. In hot weather the aluminum body efficiently dissipates heat from the CPU.

Thin and sleek

Edge comes in a low-profile case with side-oriented connectors and can easily fit even in very compact drones.  Just 15mm tall, and 97x45mm wide.

Simple mounting

Threaded M2 mounting holes on the bottom offer a convenient and sturdy attachment to the frame.

Ports and interfaces

edge-autopilot-ports2.jpg

  • 2x USB (2x USB ports)
  • Firmware Update Port
  • PPM/SBUS Input
  • SBUS Output
  • 12x PWM
  • HDMI Video Input
  • 2x UART
  • 2x CAN
  • 2x Power Supply

Easily customisable

edge-drone.jpg

Edge is built to be flexible. No matter if you’re assembling a copter as a hobby or building commercial drones — Edge is a perfect platform for any project.

Open-source code

Both the autopilot code and GCS code are open-source allowing for easy extension and modification.

Familiar environment

Edge is based on a Debian-like OS, so adding your programs is as easy as on Raspberry Pi.

Flexible extensions

It is easy to hook up your own payload be that parachute or an additional actuator.

Edge kit

UAVCAN GNSS

External sensing unit packed with multi-GNSS receiver, dual magnetometers and high-precision barometer.

Sensor measurements are transferred to the drone controller over an industrial grade CAN bus using UAVCAN protocol.

Power module with Hall sensor

Reliably supplies Edge system with power and provides current and voltage measurement. Supports batteries up to 12S and current sensing up to 200A*.

Two power modules can be used simultaneously for a redundant setup.

*with upgraded connectors and wires

2x long range 5.8 GHz Wi-Fi modules

Full HD video and telemetry link on a distance up to 2 kilometers. 5.8 GHz frequency band allows to use standard RC 2.4 GHz equipment with Edge without interference.

Powered by the best open-source autopilot

Edge runs Ardupilot - the most fully-featured and robust autopilot software available. It supports MAVLink protocol, sophisticated flight control algorithms and various flight modes. The autopilot can control any vehicle: copter, heli, plane, sub, rover and boat.

Waypoint navigation

Edge will guide the drone on a predefined mission from takeoff to landing without operator intervention.

Mission control

During the flight system status is constantly monitored and delivered via telemetry to the ground control station.

Return to landing

landing.jpg

Custom triggers can be set to activate return to landing in cases such as low battery, telemetry link loss or other inflight events.

Payload control

Edge can take control of multiple payloads: camera gimbal, retractable landing gear, parachute, crop sprayers and others.

Cross-platform Ground Control Station

qground.jpg

We have added support for Edge in a user friendly and cross-platform QGroundControl GCS. Firmware updates, vehicle configuration, video control and mission planning - everything in one application. Simply connect your device to Edge Wi-Fi network - telemetry and video from the camera will appear on the screen.

Edge can also work with other MAVLink-capable GCS like Mission Planner, APM Planner or MAVProxy.*

*feature support in these GCSs may be limited
